Getting Rid of Dumped and Unwanted Cars

Each report of an abandoned vehicle has to be investigated and a notice served on it. There are three types of notices that are used. The times scales are set down in legislation and cannot be changed. The notices are:

• A 24-hour notice, which is issued to vehicles that are abandoned on the public highway in a very poor condition.
• A seven-day notice, which is issued to vehicles that are abandoned on the public highway and may have a resale value.
• A 15-day land notice which has to be issued if the vehicle is on private land.

If the vehicle is still there after the expiry date and the owner has not come forward, we will arrange for it to be removed. You can help to speed up the removal process by contacting us on the number below with the given make, model, colour, registration number and location of any abandoned vehicles you see.

If you have a car that you no longer need or want, the Council can collect it from your home and take it off your hands for just £27.
